How to join free chat rooms and talk to strangers online
Anamaak lets adults talk to new people through public text chat rooms and one-to-one conversations. Public rooms and one-to-one text chat are completely free, with no paid memberships. There is no account registration or app download. Start with a nickname, read the conversation and choose when to join in. You must be 18 or older to use the service.
1. Choose a nickname
On the homepage, enter a nickname with 3–24 letters, numbers or underscores. Avoid using your phone number, email address or full legal name. Choose a gender option; Prefer not to say is available. Read the Terms and Privacy Policy and confirm both entry checkboxes before continuing.
2. Join a public chat room
Choose an available public room and select Join room. A room marked Temporarily unavailable cannot be joined until it reopens. Public messages are visible to people who enter that room. The online list shows people in your selected room, rather than everyone on the website. On mobile, use Users and Chats to open the corresponding panels.
3. Reply to a message
Tap or click a public message to open its options, then choose Reply to this message. The composer shows a preview so you can check which message you are answering. Cancel the preview if you want to send an ordinary message instead.
4. Start a private conversation
Select another user's avatar or message, then choose Chat with user. Your conversations appear in Chats, with unread badges for new messages. Public messages stay in their own rooms; private conversations follow your current chat identity when you switch rooms. Private messages are stored on the server and are not end-to-end encrypted.
Conversation starters for meeting new people
A short, open question gives other people something easy to answer. Read the room first so your message fits the conversation. For example:
- What song have you had on repeat lately?
- Has anyone watched a good film this week?
- What hobby would you like to try?
- What is one thing you enjoyed today?
Share an interest rather than personal contact details. Give people time to reply, avoid repeatedly sending the same message and respect anyone who does not want a private conversation.
What do you need to start a free online chat?
Use a phone, tablet or desktop browser with JavaScript and an internet connection. You do not need to enter payment details, create a password, provide an email address or install an app. Your internet provider may still charge for data.
Public rooms or one-to-one chat?
Use a public room when you want to join a group conversation. The room's recent messages help you see what people are discussing. Choose a one-to-one chat when another participant is open to a direct conversation. A private chat is not an encrypted vault; do not share information you could not risk being copied.
What if nobody answers?
The number of people online varies. There may be quiet periods and Anamaak does not guarantee an immediate reply or a match. Check the online list, try another available public room or return later. Do not send repeated requests to someone who is not responding.
5. Understand your chat identity
Your nickname is a display name, not a registered account. Each new entry creates a fresh chat identity. Switching rooms within that entry keeps it; refreshing, closing the page or exiting to home ends ordinary access to it. Reusing the nickname does not restore old private conversations.
6. Know when messages expire
Under normal retention, public and private message content expires after 24 hours. Public rooms also retain only the latest 100 messages each, and recent history is loaded in limited batches. Other data and lawful preservation exceptions are explained in the Privacy Policy.
